Kids of all ages enjoyed decorating the garden wigwam with hand-drawn fruits and vegetables.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

August usually means\u00a0a break from classes for students, but it’s the\u00a0time of year when School Gardens are in full swing with summer programs. Summer also provides many\u00a0opportunities for us to participate in\u00a0community events\u00a0around our area\u00a0and Squirrel Fest is one\u00a0Longview event\u00a0not to be missed. All proceeds from Squirrel Fest this year went to Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity.<\/p>\n

Students and school garden volunteers shape the dough for garden pizzas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

School Gardens had a fun\u00a0set-up in the Kids’ Area at the event this year that included:<\/p>\n

– Handing out free garden seeds<\/p>\n

– Offering samples of right-out-of-the-oven\u00a0delicious garden pizza<\/p>\n

– Giving visitors\u00a0a chance to decorate a garden\u00a0wigwam with hand-drawn pictures of fruits and vegetables<\/p>\n

Pizzas were topped with fresh garden ingredients and made by students and volunteers on-site.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
