School Garden Volunteer Training plus a new offering: Pruning Workshop – Fruit Trees & Grape Vines

Hello folks!

On the mornings of February 8 and 9, we will offer, as we have for many years, our School Garden Volunteer Training. If you are interested in helping out with our local Longview/Kelso school gardens, or are developing a program in your school or community, this class is for you!  These identical classes run from 9:00 to noon – choose Friday 2/8 or Saturday 2/9. This class takes place at Northlake Elementary and is free as always.

On those same two days, in the afternoon, we are offering a brand new class: Pruning Workshop – Fruit Trees & Grape Vines. We will do some learning in the classroom and then head out to the orchard to do some hands-on pruning. These identical classes run from 1:00 to 3:00pm – choose Friday 2/8 or Saturday 2/9.

This class takes place at Northlake Elementary and is free of charge.

Special Evening Produce Sale this Wednesday from 5 to 7

School Garden Produce Sales have been taking place Wednesdays from 10 to 1 in the Northlake Elementary School Garden all summer long, with students proudly selling the gorgeous produce they’ve grown and tended.

This Wednesday we’re breaking a bit with tradition and hosting a special Evening Produce Sale as a last hurrah before we begin Fall Garden Programs. There are still so many beautiful fruits and vegetables to be tasted and savored before the season ends.

Schedule for Summer Garden programs and Adopt-a-Garden

We’re coming up on the final week of Spring programs in School Gardens, which also means that Summer Garden programs will be starting soon.

We are also in need of families to adopt gardens for a week this summer. Adopting a garden means that you help take care of it for a week (or more!) – watering every few days (depending on the temperature), and harvesting what is ripe and ready to be picked. Gardening expertise or experience is not necessary! Once you have signed up we will review watering and harvesting with you before your scheduled week arrives.

There are so many different opportunities to volunteer or participate this summer – see the schedule below and contact info@LCschoolgardens.org if you still need more information. All garden activities and programs are FREE.
