LOWER COLUMBIA SCHOOL GARDENS
Cultivating the values of lifelong learning, sustainability, health, and community.
These passionate students went from tending a few garden beds to building a new large garden on the slope near neighboring Columbia Heights Elementary. Here they not only have more room to grow plants in the garden but they also get to spend a lot of time in the small forest right next door. Kids can collect fallen branches as stakes for tomatoes and install birdhouses to help the wildlife.
We are lucky to have such a dedicated teacher as Sarah Wirtz who comes to Garden Club every week with her students. Cascade kids love to care for their plants as well as to make snacks with fresh produce, create art, and talk about saving the world.
